My Great-Grandfather, Philip Rahn, was married three times. His second wife, was a widow named Mabel Blair. They became husband and wife in the early 1940s and shortly after becoming Mabel Rahn my great-grandfather, a cabinet maker by trade, made a case with nesting trays to house her button collection. Mabel died in a car accident in 1945 or 46 and her collection was passed around in my family eventually arriving in my Brooklyn apartment. The trays are layered within the case in pairs shown here on the left with a detail from one of the two trays on the right.
